Open Question: Can you understand Palin?

The president-elect's stubborn insistence on using complete sentences has already attracted a rebuke from one of his harshest critics, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska. "Talking with complete sentences there and also too talking in a way that ordinary Americans like Joe the Plumber and Tito the Builder can't really do there, I think needing to do that isn't tapping into what Americans are needing also," she said. I'm sorry I should have put a link. Ah, the accursed Grandmaster of idiocy strikes out once more.

Open Question: If an inexpensive refit was widely available, would you do this in your home or business to conserve water?

I've spent much of the last 3 years living on a sailboat. We can stay out for 6 weeks before refilling our 100-gallon water tank. Here in the US, each American averages 150 gallons every DAY. This is far and away more than any other country in the world. On the boat, we use a foot pump to draw water into our sink. Every full down/up cycle of the pump gives us 1/2 cup of water. If we wish to fill a pasta pot or a kettle, we rapidly pump several cycles and water flows quite quick. Our water never flows freely without action from the foot pump. I was amazed at how quickly we adapted to its use, and how much we enjoyed the hands-free element of it. So I wonder if every you citizens of the world (especially in water-strapped regions) would consider implementing this change if it was easy enough to do... If there was a easy way to adapt a simple foot pump to the pressure water in your home, would you do it? Would you be willing to adjust to a slightly less convenient method of getting water from your faucet? What about in your shower? Would you be willing to shampoo and bathe yourself while operating a foot pump? Sure, your dishwasher and laundry would run as usual, but could you receive used to the change in your faucet? Would you embrace the idea? What if it cost less than $50 per faucet? For every you brilliant DIYers: I imagine there is a way to accomplish this, but I'm an editor not an engineer. Can anyone with related knowledge talk on the subject? Can such a pump even work with a pressurized system? Here is the pump we use on the boat: http://www.whalepumps.com/marine/product... And if it really seemed feasible and I wanted to become an advocate for this widespread change, can anyone suggest how would I start? I currently live in a tiny town in Alaska.

Open Question: What is a pleasant and easy yet good looking fish to take care of for a novice?

I got a fish from biology class today and then I realized the only thing I knew I had was the tiny amount of flake fish food the teacher gave me and the ziploc bag it was in. It wasn't a project or anything it was just to possess a fish :) . Any who, I did some research after I put my tiny goldfish in a tall, somewhat wide clear glass vase. What I discovered was, my vase was not nearly big enough, for surface area. I should receive a different nice of food than flake because flakes cause fish to swim to the surface which put air pockets in the fish and can cause illness. I do not have a close as needed efficient way to supply the fish with oxegenated water. The room I have put it in has too bright of a light, what is preferrable is a roof with dim lights on at least 8 hours of the day. And many other things that I forgot. I feel like I am torturing my fish now and don't know what to do with it, because it is winter here and I live in Alaska so it's not I can let it "free", with it being safe for that matter. I need to know what to do about that since I know the soonest I can receive a fish tank is in like 1-3 days. Plus I found out how difficult it is (comparativly speaking) to take care of a goldfish. So please reccomend: What I should do about my goldfish. and what is a good, pleasant, easy to take care of fish that looks nice? What is a RO unit and how does it work?

Open Question: Do you think it’s ok to foul some all game playing pick up just because their BIGGER/STRONGER than you?

I’m 6’4, 240lb and played 4 years of high school and college ball as a starter. Growing up with my dad in the military I had the opportunity to play road ball every over the US from Atlanta, Alaska, North Carolina and Arizona just to name a few. You can compare my game to a KG/Anthony Mason type. I hate to loose, adore to compete and know how to move my weight around. Because of that a lot of guys don’t like guarding me. Being my size I receive a lot of fouls compared to most playing pick up. 6’4 is not tall by any means in the real world of basketball. unfortunately most of the gyms I go to in Phoenix I wind up being the tallest guy on the court. I can play any position but when you play against smaller guys in pick up ball they don’t like guys my size bring the ball up or taking too many out side shoots. So I just pick to stay in side most time just to balance things out on offense and to avoid hearing someone mouth, “why don’t you post up”. Another thing I can’t understand is when I post up most of the guys in the gym don’t know how to make a decent pass?! I was hooping at the La Fitness in Scottsdale AZ a few months ago and go into it with couple of guys on the other team. They had a smaller guy guarding me and he was letting me have it every time and went up for shoot or a rebound. You could say he was playing dirty because half the time he wasn’t even going for the ball. After about 10 minutes of this I started to receive irritated. The next play I down I went in for an offensive rebound and gave him a little push on his side and he fell. I grabbed the rebound and pump faked when I landed getting another player in the air. I took a drop step and got fouled difficult as hell by another guy but managed to muscle up a shot with my left hand. I yelled AND 1 SON!!! Then I ran down the court to play D. The guy who fell got up and said that pail didn’t count because it was an offensive foul?! The other two guys that I made look stupid joined in and started co signing with their teammate. These idiots held the game up for 10 min arguing the call. My argument was no one stopped playing, or made a call and I was getting hacked every game never made one call. The guy who fouled me for the lay up said but he is smaller than you. I replied, so that makes it ok for him to foul me every game because I’m bigger, and he looked at me and said “yes”. So I asked him to switch with his man and guard me because he was about my size but he didn’t. They didn’t let me keep the point and no one on my team would talk up, so I just let it ride. Every time my man caught the ball on D I just started doing to him what he had been doing to me for 15 min. What I didn’t understand is when he got a difficult foul from me everyone one would just check the ball up?!? We ended up winning the game anyway. The big guys never win sometimes. Don’t receive it twisted about AZ because this story they have a lot of good hoopers in this state. The best runs are in the summer and off season, but that’s about anywhere I guess no is old enough to know who Anthony Mason is. I’m a monster in the post, that’s just how I play. I didn’t receive over hundred thousands wins below my belt from playing soft. I just hate hearing the bitchassness when I play physical. They try to call offensive fouls or complain when they receive a retaliation foul. Shaq is a perfect example, he has been getting hacked every his career, but when he gives someone like Rodney Stuckey a frustration foul or slaps someone is their mouth like he did Greg Ostertag they look at him like he’s the bad guy. That’s messed up you be trying to hurt folks. I had some fool like you arrive below when I went in for a dunk last month. King, the mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Open Question: How is it that Texas and Alaska largest religious groups' are None/Unaffiliated yet the states are so ..?

politically socially conservative? Here's one article on Alaska being one of the nation's least religious states: http://www.adn.com/life/story/463303.html And from the Texas 2000 Census: http://www.thearda.com/mapsReports/reports/state/48_2000.asp a very high percentage are nonreligious! Open Question: Looking for a Christian farm commune in Alaska?

During the summer, while I was on a plane headed from Reno back to Seattle, I sat next to a girl who said she was from a Christian commune-like farm in Alaska. I was nice of freaked out by this, but it seemed to be a nice place from the answers she gave to my questions. Anyway, I just finished reading an article about Robert Hale in 'Outside Magazine' and throughout the article, mentions of another Christian community kept coming up. Just out of pure curiosity, I'm trying to look if there were any connections between his family and this commune. I forget what the name of it was, but for some reason "Cobol" comes back to me as a possible name, although I can't find any information on it. every I really remember is that it's a dairy farm that's about 3+ hours away from Anchorage. If you have any information, please post. And no "idk" answers just so that you can gain points. I'm really serious about this research. Thanks!

Open Question: Plant help, please!!!?

I am doing a science experiment. The effect of chlorine on plant growth. Could you also tell me how to take care of the plant? P.P.P.S. I read about an experiment where a guy used I think it was "Alaska Peas." Open Question: Why do so many people not seem to realize you can run for President if born in a US territory?

I saw a ton of answers to a question a few minutes ago about whether or not Puerto Ricans can run for President. A bunch of the responses were that they can't. WTF?!?! Puerto Rico is a US territory, as is Guam, as were both Hawaii and Alaska, and every the other states. Military bases are also considered US soil, so if you're born on a US military base, you are a natural born US citizen as well. Why do so many people not know this? Doesn't anyone know we've had people like this run for President before, including McCain? I think Goldwater was born in AZ when it was a territory, too. Maybe it's because my mom was born in Alaska when it was a territory that I know people like that are natural born US citizens. But geez, I thought this was common knowledge. Sorry, had to vent. Ignorance annoys me. So my question is, did you know this? Have you encountered others who believe this to be the case? Did they refuse to believe the truth?

Is it a security reason like he would be an easy assassin's target, black against every that white snow? *He said so himself on You Tube.

Open Question: Washington state has an agreement with AK, MT, and OR about not paying sales tax, but what's the law?

I'm aware that Washington state doesn't require citizens of Montana, Oregon, and Alaska (states that do not carry a sales tax) to pay taxes when they are in Washington, but apparently stores are allowed to refuse this "courtesy" service. I've tried to find the legal statute explaining this, but I can't find it! Anyone know what the law is, or where I can find it?
